I received this backpack about a month ago. I realized after about only 3 weeks of use that one of the cinching straps on the side of the bag had completely come off – the strap was frayed on the end and no longer staying attached to the bag.Silly me thought it would be a good idea to order a replacement instead of getting a refund. My replacement came quickly (yeah prime shipping!), but yesterday when I picked it up I heard the dreaded rip – One of the main straps came loose from the seam attaching it to the main body. – This was only 5 days after I had received the replacement and only the second day I had used the backpack. It was only about a half inch that ripped. In the backpack at the time was my laptop, one textbook, 2 small binders, and assorted notebooks and folders, plus a few other light things like pens and a calculator. The replacement backpack is now on its way back to Amazon and I am on the lookout for a new backpack.

Well, I initially reviewed this product as a 5 star. The bag was awesome when i got just before going in vacation. I needed a backpack that would hold my laptop and my college books and this worked perfectly. This bag worked great for 75% of one semester in college. Now less than half way through the second semester the lining is falling apart. There is nothing super heavy in there. This semester I only have 1 book and 4 folders with notebooks in them and 1,three ring binder in it. Pretty light load for it since i havent even been taking my laptop anywhere.Very dissapointing.

So I realized I needed a knap sack because I could no longer lug my laptop around in my parents former picnic bag cooler (yes, i was using it along with the bright flowers on it…I was kind of desperate). I decided to research bags and found this one to be reasonable and had great reviews. I just got it today so I am not sure as to the durability but I really like it so far. Here’s what I like:Cushioned and adjustable strapsTwo side pockets for bottle water (won’t fit my Yeti though :-(Top small zipper pouch for my keysFits my 15.6 inch Dell Inspirion laptopFits my folder and notebookHas a deep pocket for my wallet, sunglasses, eye glasses and make up bagHas pockets for pensIs NOT heavyIt has enough cushioning that I feel even if I dropped it, my laptop would be okayWhile not exactly that fashionable it IS functional and I like to think, even in my 40’s, I look cute in it!FYI, the last 3 pics of me have my laptop and all the above mentioned items in it, and it was not heavy to carry.Negatives:I wanted my Yeti to fit in the side but it’s too bigI wish the backpack stool up on it’s own, instead you have to kind of tilt it against something so it doesn’t fallOverall? I am VERY happy with this backpack!!

I was very happy with this backpack for the first three weeks I had it. It fits my Dell 17-inch laptop and has SO many pockets. If you’re someone who likes being organized, like me, all those pockets are nothing short of amazing. Unfortunately, around the three week mark, one of the straps completely ripped at the bottom, making the backpack entirely unusable. In fairness, I had my laptop, its cables, some books and a few other odds and ends in the backpack at the time, but that should be considered well within normal use and definitely couldn’t compare to a student with a laptop AND a pack full of textbooks.I’m sending the backpack back to Amazon and will look for something that’s higher quality and made by a company known for producing quality bags and backpacks. Like all Amazon Basics, this one has a great price and looks really good on the surface, but doesn’t have anywhere near the durability a laptop backpack needs.

This is a solid backpack with lots of room and compartments. The first compartment has several little dividers to hold your pens, post-it notes, business cards, phone, external drives, power cords, etc. The second compartment is not as deep or wide as the other pockets but goes down the whole length of the backpack. The third compartment is h-u-g-e! It’s deep and wide and about 3-4″ at the bottom and will hold a ton of books, folders, and notebooks. The rear compartment has a padded area for the laptop, a shallow pocket and another huge area that’s as big as the 3rd compartment. Finally, in between the 3rd and 4th compartments is a mini-pocket that can hold a phone, iPod, ear buds, and other small items. This thing can hold a lot! On each side of the backpack is a mesh pocket with elastic top. It will hold a 20 oz. bottle of water. Drink containers larger than a 20 oz. water bottle will probably not fit. Now, let’s talk about padding. The front compartment is padded, the handle is padded, the shoulder straps are very well padded and the areas that will be pressing against your shoulder blades and lower back are thickly padded, too.Overall, this is a great backpack and not too “basic”. It’s lightweight and strong. However, I have a 17″ laptop (screen size). When I actually measured the body, it is 16 1/2″. It can barely fit into the backpack without a lot of effort. And at the very top of the bag, where the corners of the laptop are, the laptop is clearly pushing the limits of the fabric so now those areas of my laptop are at risk for damage if dropped and the bag probably won’t last more than a year before those areas completely wear through. And that is why I had to give this a 4-star rating. :-(If you have a 15″ laptop and a lot of gear to carry, then this backpack is great and would be worth all 5 stars!!!

PROs: Don’t let the price fool you. This backpack is a workhorse! I use it every day, from work to weekend trips. For work, it carries my gym clothes, laptop, lunch bag, and coffee/water without leaving strap indents in my shoulders. On the weekend, my wife an I convert it to a diaper bag, so it carries diapers, extra clothes/food, toys, changing pad, water bottles, blankets, etc.CONs: I might have missed it, but I didn’t see an option for different colors. Also, one of the mesh side-pockets ripped. Since I don’t know how to repair it and I don’t want the rip to expand (making the pocket totally useless), I don’t use it. That’s a slight inconvenience.Overall, I want another one. It’s perfect for everyday use or special occasions (family field trips – museums, carnivals, petting zoos, etc.).

I must admit that I was first skeptical about a backpack for under 30 bucks that would meet the rigorous demands of an IT technologist such as myself. Well, this is the best “IT crash bag” I have ever owned. It was recently field-tested under rugged conditions, much of it in the rain, holding up quite well, and unexpectedly pulled through for me under some trying circumstances. It held all my tools I needed: multi-tool, screwdriver, crimps, diag-cutters, adapters, notepads, pens, markers, cables, 17″ laptop and charger, iPad Air, work gloves, flashlight, spare parts, etc. I hope the picture speaks for itself. I highly recommend it for field and office.EDIT: I would like to add this is one durable backpack! Lately I have been traveling with this bag on commercial flights as checked luggage, maybe twic, since I carry so many tools for my work. Without exception, I find a TSA card inside. One time, one of the zippers had popped off track. I was bummed that I might have to purchase another bag. I went online, found a relatively easy way to repair it. SAVED MONEY and TIME. In my experience, manufacturers skimp on the zipper quality, causing it to easily crack or completely break if you try to pry at it with needle-nosed pliers or screwdriver. Not in my case! Happy customer.

As far as bags go, I like all the pockets/storage etc… But after only 8 months one of the straps has already torn and hanging by a thread. Granted, I do use this bag almost daily, but a good bag should last me much longer than 8 months. My last backpack was a Jansport and I used it for 9 years before it started showing signs of wear. I am disappointed this bag didn’t last me longer and I would warn customers to keep in mind the short term use you will get out of this bag. Did not meet the expectations that I have for an “Amazon” product

After one week of use and a trip across the state, I’m a solid fan. I have a a few more trips scheduled and hear that the bag doesn’t always hold up. I’ll post an update if there are any issues. I have a 17″ MBP and have had no issues with the size. I would have preferred more places to store pens, but oh well. I’m not sure why there are complaints about the padding and protection for the laptop inside of the bag. Don’t use this bag to hit people and you will be fine. This has been a nice change from carrying an attache case. Solid construction and nice functions make this a solid win!Update after Four Months: I have been using this bag daily to transport laptop and ipad between work and home. I have also gone on three trips, one by train and two by car. This bag is still like new and holding up strong. After some use, I really like that there are 3 “storage” compartments in the front not including the space for pens and stuff (five total compartments). The storage options lets me keep personal and business paperwork from mixing. I typically carry a laptop, ipad, a couple of textbooks, and all the other junk that just sits there in the bag.

Love this backpack. I was able to accommodate 2 laptops (both in cases) as well as all of the accessories (plugs, mice, headsets) for them. I also carried a tablet and all of our “carry on” needs (hats, sunglasses, sweatshirts) with room to spare. And while our bag was not light with all of our “stuff” – the shoulder straps were padded well and provided good cushion so it was not painful to carry. The bag has was easily adjusted, so both my husband at 6’3″, my daughter at 5’4″ and me at 5’3″ could all carry comfortably. Would highly recommend!
